Pakistan’s electricity consumers may be hit with another increase in their power bills as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) considers a proposed Rs. 2.52 per unit hike for July 2026.

The proposed increase has been sought by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.

NEPRA is scheduled to hear the request today. The regulator will review the data submitted by the power sector before deciding whether to approve the increase.

The CPPA’s application shows that electricity generation costs remained elevated in July. Generation from diesel cost as much as Rs. 50 per unit, while imported coal-based power reached Rs. 54.47 per unit.

Electricity generated from imported LNG cost Rs. 47.37 per unit during the month.

If approved, the Rs. 2.52 per unit adjustment will add to consumers’ electricity bills for one month.

The proposed hike comes shortly after NEPRA approved a Rs. 0.75 per unit increase under the June 2026 monthly fuel adjustment. That increase was reflected in electricity bills issued in August.

The regulator had also approved a Rs. 0.34 per unit increase under the May 2026 adjustment, adding further pressure on electricity consumers.
