The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a green registration plate system for small shopkeepers, aimed at protecting registered retailers from unnecessary scrutiny by tax officials.

Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani discussed the measure during a follow-up awareness session on the Small Shopkeepers Scheme at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad on Monday.

FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial said registered retailers would receive maximum facilitation under the scheme and that the green plates would act as a safeguard against unnecessary visits or checks by tax collectors.

However, he warned that traders who fail to cooperate with the tax authorities could face legal action.

The session also featured a live demonstration of FBR’s digital system, including its dedicated online portal and mobile applications for Android and iOS.

Officials explained the registration process and tax calculation, while trade representatives raised questions during a question-and-answer session.

The government says the Retailer Scheme is designed to make tax compliance easier for small shopkeepers through simplified registration and digital services.
