The nationwide goods transporters’ strike has entered its ninth day, with federal and provincial authorities set to hold crucial talks with transport representatives at Governor House Karachi today.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar are expected to participate in the negotiations. The Sindh governor, Sindh transport minister and other government officials will also attend.

Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate, a representative of the transporters, said the prolonged strike has brought goods transportation across the country to a standstill.

He said transporters were not seeking confrontation with the government but wanted their demands addressed through a practical and lasting solution.

However, he stressed that the strike would not be called off on the basis of verbal assurances alone. Transporters, he said, require concrete decisions followed by actual implementation before ending the nationwide protest.

Chaudhry urged transporters to remain peaceful, maintain unity and avoid relying on rumours or unverified reports while negotiations are underway.

He expressed hope that Sunday’s meeting would result in meaningful progress and resolve the dispute.

He reiterated that the peaceful nationwide strike will continue until the transporters’ demands are approved and practical measures are taken to implement them.
