Professor Dr Sardar Muhammad Ali, son of National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, has been awarded the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, as President Asif Ali Zardari approved a list of civil and military honours ahead of Pakistan’s Independence Day.
The Presidency said President Zardari approved national civil awards for 355 people for notable contributions in fields including education, science, engineering, medicine, literature, arts, sports, journalism, welfare and public service.
He also approved military decorations for 1,172 members of the armed forces and civil armed forces in recognition of their services.
The Tamgha-i-Imtiaz list includes prominent figures from several professional fields. Among those honoured in science are Dr Sajjad Hussain, Dr Aneela Zameer Jaffery and Dr Urooj Saeed, while UET Peshawar Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sadiq and PIEAS Principal Engineer Prof Dr Naeem-ul-Haq Tariq received the award for contributions to engineering.
Several senior educationists were also recognised, including AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood, LUMS Dean Prof Dr Faisal Bari and Women University Mardan and Swabi Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ghazala Yasmeen.
The civil honours recognise individuals for distinguished achievements and services to Pakistan across a broad range of sectors.
President Zardari also approved a special remission of sentences for eligible prisoners as part of the Independence Day-related decisions.
