The federal government has directed the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) to transform the Sost Dry Port into a key gateway for exports as part of broader efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s trade connectivity with China and Central Asia.
The directive was issued by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal while presiding over the 68th meeting of the National Logistics Board.
During the meeting, the board reviewed NLC’s administrative, operational and financial performance. Officials informed members that the organisation has made notable progress in developing regional transport links, opening new export routes for Pakistani products and expanding international trade corridors.
The board was told that NLC has established forward transit trade centres in Serhetabat (Turkmenistan), Termez (Uzbekistan) and Kashgar (China) to facilitate cross-border trade and improve Pakistan’s access to regional markets.
Members were also briefed on ongoing projects to modernise logistics infrastructure, improve value addition in the agriculture sector and support export-oriented growth.
Ahsan Iqbal instructed NLC to prioritise the expansion of the Sost Dry Port to improve export logistics and reinforce Pakistan’s position in regional trade. He also called for setting up an internationally accredited driving academy to train professional drivers capable of serving global logistics markets.
The minister said trainees should also receive foreign language instruction to enable better coordination with international partners, particularly those involved in cross-border trade under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He said efficient logistics has become a critical pillar of economic competitiveness, enabling countries to reduce transport costs, strengthen supply chains and improve trade efficiency. According to the minister, upgrading Pakistan’s logistics network is essential to achieving the export-led growth, industrial competitiveness and regional integration goals envisioned under the Uraan Pakistan initiative.
Ahsan Iqbal also commended NLC’s performance and its contribution to modernising Pakistan’s transport and logistics sector.
