Pakistan’s mobile phone manufacturing and assembly sector rebounded in May 2026, with local factories producing 2 million handsets, a 10 percent increase from 1.81 million units manufactured in April, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Despite the monthly improvement, overall production during the first five months of 2026 remained below last year’s level. Local manufacturers assembled 11.17 million mobile phones between January and May, down 7 percent from 12.05 million units produced during the corresponding period of 2025.
A direct year-on-year comparison for May could not be made, as the PTA reported April and May 2025 figures on a combined basis.
Among leading brands, VGO Tel recorded the highest growth during the first five months of the year, with production rising 29 percent. Tecno followed with 24 percent growth, while Samsung posted a 7 percent increase in output.
Meanwhile, production declined for several major manufacturers. Vivo registered a 30 percent drop, followed by Itel at 29 percent and Infinix at 19 percent.
Pakistan continued to rely heavily on domestic manufacturing to meet local demand. In May, 86 percent of all mobile phones sold in the country were locally assembled or manufactured, up from 83 percent in April.
For the January-May period, locally produced devices accounted for 85 percent of Pakistan’s total mobile phone demand, underscoring the industry’s growing role in reducing dependence on imported handsets.
