The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide high alert, warning that heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and flash floods could affect several parts of Pakistan over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the expected weather system is consistent with seasonal forecasts, and advance warnings have already been shared with federal, provincial and district authorities to strengthen preparedness and emergency response.
The NDMA said mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir face an increased risk of flash floods, landslides and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs).
Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, strong winds and dust storms are expected in Islamabad and several districts of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Similar weather conditions are also forecast for parts of Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The authority also warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas where intense rainfall occurs.
District administrations and emergency services have been directed to remain on high alert, while rescue teams have been instructed to ensure full operational readiness to respond to any emergency.
The NDMA advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, especially to northern regions where flooding and landslides could disrupt road access. Travelers have also been urged to check the latest weather and road conditions before starting their journeys.
People have been encouraged to stay updated through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application and contact local emergency authorities immediately in case of any emergency.
