Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has called for stricter enforcement of discipline and parliamentary etiquette in the National Assembly, saying that violations of rules in galleries and lobbies cannot be tolerated.
Addressing the House, he stressed that the dignity of Parliament must be maintained at all times and urged that lawmakers be regularly reminded of parliamentary procedures and codes of conduct to ensure proper decorum.
He also raised concerns about what he described as growing misuse of access within the Parliament House, including unnecessary movement of visitors and filming or photography in restricted areas. According to him, such practices need tighter oversight due to security considerations.
Referring to informal security practices, the minister criticised the so-called “Vigo Dala” culture, saying it is inappropriate and should be discouraged or regulated more strictly.
Khawaja Asif further said that casual conversations, signaling, and improper interactions in galleries undermine the seriousness of parliamentary proceedings and should be discouraged. He added that the authority of the Speaker and the rules of the House must be fully respected, and clear guidelines on conduct should be prominently displayed.
Meanwhile, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq instructed members to avoid bringing guests without valid entry passes and reiterated the rules governing parliamentary conduct during the session.
