U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a landmark peace agreement with Iran, concluding months of negotiations aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries.

The agreement was signed during a state dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles, marking a major diplomatic breakthrough.

Soon after the signing, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on X that the accord, titled the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), had been electronically signed by the presidents of the United States and Iran, with Pakistan serving as the mediator.

According to the Prime Minister, the memorandum takes effect immediately. As part of its initial provisions, Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States will lift its naval blockade.

Shehbaz Sharif congratulated President Trump for pursuing diplomacy and thanked Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Iranian leadership, and the negotiating teams from both countries for helping secure the agreement.

He also acknowledged the contributions of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt in facilitating the negotiations, while giving special recognition to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for what he described as a key role in advancing the peace process.

The agreement is being seen as a significant diplomatic achievement that could help ease regional tensions and pave the way for broader engagement between Washington and Tehran.
