Google has officially released the final version of Android 17 along with Wear OS 7, introducing a major update focused heavily on artificial intelligence and cross-device integration.

The rollout is starting with Pixel devices and arrives alongside a new Pixel Drop featuring multiple AI-driven upgrades, further strengthening Google’s push to position Android as an AI-first ecosystem.

The update introduces support for advanced AI tools including Lyria 3 for music generation, Gemini Omni for multimodal and creative tasks, and AudioLM-based speech-to-speech translation features, initially arriving on select Pixel models including the Pixel 10a.

A key highlight of Android 17 is deeper integration of Gemini AI across the system, enabling tasks such as video editing through conversational prompts, content creation, and enhanced communication tools.

Google has also expanded Quick Share compatibility, allowing older Pixel devices to connect more seamlessly with Apple’s AirDrop system.

The new Pixel Drop brings additional calling features, including the ability to record personalized outgoing messages when calls go unanswered, along with an expanded “Take a Message” feature rolling out in more regions.

On the wearable side, Pixel Watch gains enhanced safety tools including crash detection, fall detection, and pulse monitoring that can automatically alert emergency contacts and services when needed.

Android 17 also introduces a new “Bubble Bar” interface designed to improve multitasking by allowing users to manage and switch between apps in floating bubble format at the bottom of the screen.

For content creators, a new screen reaction feature enables simultaneous recording from the front camera and display, aimed at short-form platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.

Security and parental controls have also been upgraded, including a “Mark as Lost” option in Find Hub, Live Threat Detection, improved screen-time limits, and PIN-based parental controls that do not require a linked Google account.

Foldable devices also receive a dedicated gaming mode featuring a split-screen layout with an adaptive on-screen gamepad.

Meanwhile, Wear OS 7 introduces live app updates mirrored from phones, improved integration with upcoming Google hardware such as AI glasses and headphones, and deeper Gemini-based intelligence features, including personalized widgets and multi-step automation. It also brings performance improvements and better battery optimization.
