The federal government has approved an increase in the quarterly stipend under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), raising it to Rs. 18,000 starting from the next fiscal year.
The announcement was made by BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid, who said the programme continues to serve as a critical financial lifeline for low-income and vulnerable households across the country. She also rejected what she termed as negative propaganda against the initiative, reaffirming its role in social protection.
According to the chairperson, the revised payment structure will take effect in the upcoming fiscal year as part of broader efforts to strengthen welfare support for deserving families amid rising inflation and economic pressures.
She further confirmed that from July, all BISP disbursements will be shifted to a digital wallet-based system. The new mechanism is aimed at improving transparency, reducing leakages, and making payments more accessible for beneficiaries.
BISP remains Pakistan’s largest cash transfer programme, supporting millions of low-income families. The latest increase is expected to provide additional relief to households facing elevated living costs.
