The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has proposed major relief measures ahead of the Federal Budget 2026-27, including a 50 percent increase in salaries and pensions for government employees and retirees.

Sources said the party believes rising living costs and persistent inflation have significantly reduced purchasing power, making substantial financial relief necessary.

The PPP has also called for increasing the national minimum wage to Rs. 60,000 per month, arguing that the current level no longer reflects the cost of living faced by low-income workers.

According to sources, the party wants future salary and pension adjustments to be more closely linked to inflation to protect public-sector employees and pensioners from rising prices.

The proposals remain under discussion, with the federal government reportedly reluctant to accommodate the full scale of the requested increases due to fiscal constraints.

The PPP is also opposing any new taxes or additional petroleum-related levies in the upcoming budget. Instead, the party has urged the government to broaden economic activity and identify alternative revenue sources rather than increasing the tax burden on consumers and businesses.
