Internet and mobile phone services are likely to be suspended in Azad Kashmir from June 6 ahead of a strike announced by the Joint Public Action Committee. According to sources, instructions for the suspension of mobile and internet services have reportedly been issued to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) as a precautionary step to maintain law and order.
Sources said the decision has been taken amid concerns over the security situation ahead of planned protest activities. However, the PTA has not officially confirmed receiving any such directives. Officials within the authority stated that any instructions issued by the federal government would be reviewed and implemented accordingly.
The development comes amid a continuing deadlock in negotiations between the Joint Public Action Committee and the Azad Kashmir government. Talks between the two sides have so far failed to produce a breakthrough, prompting authorities to consider additional administrative and security measures across the region.
According to reports, mobile and internet services may remain suspended across Azad Kashmir until June 12. The proposed suspension is intended to support security arrangements and help authorities manage potential disruptions during a period of heightened political activity.
The measures are being considered ahead of a statewide shutter-down strike and wheel-jam protest announced by the Joint Public Action Committee for June 9. Authorities are preparing for possible large-scale demonstrations and transport disruptions as tensions between the committee and the government remain unresolved.
