The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has warned that the sale and purchase of foreign SIM cards within the country is illegal and punishable under the law, urging citizens to avoid involvement in such activities.
In a public advisory, the telecom regulator said unauthorized trade or use of foreign SIM cards could lead to serious legal consequences and strict enforcement action.
The authority said individuals found involved in such activities may face legal proceedings, with possible penalties including imprisonment, heavy fines, and disconnection of SIM services.
PTA said illegal use of foreign SIMs can undermine regulatory compliance and violate Pakistan’s telecommunications laws, adding that the warning is part of broader efforts to curb unlawful communication practices in the country.
The regulator advised the public to refrain from buying or selling foreign SIM cards and stressed that compliance with telecom regulations is essential to avoid legal trouble.
PTA maintained that violations of applicable laws may expose individuals to severe penalties and said strict action could be taken against those engaged in the illegal trade or use of foreign SIMs.
