The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its gains against the US dollar for the 165th consecutive trading day on Thursday, continuing a prolonged stable-to-positive trend in the interbank market.
The currency closed at 278.55 per USD, marking a one-paisa gain in the latest session.
However, the rupee showed a mixed performance against other major global and regional currencies during the same trading day, losing ground in several key pairs.
Against the euro (EUR), the PKR weakened by Rs 0.91, while it fell Rs 1.71 against the British pound (GBP). It also depreciated by 52 paisas against the Australian dollar (AUD) and 8 paisas against the Malaysian ringgit (MYR) and Chinese yuan (CNY).
In contrast, the rupee posted marginal gains against select currencies. It strengthened slightly by 1.37 paisas against the Canadian dollar (CAD) and remained broadly stable against Gulf currencies, gaining against both the UAE dirham (AED) and the Saudi riyal (SAR).
Despite the mixed movement across currencies, the rupee’s continued daily gains against the US dollar highlight sustained stability in the USD/PKR exchange rate in recent sessions.
