Two Chinese supertankers passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, according to shipping data from London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), in what appears to be the first such movement since the recent ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran earlier this week.
According to Reuters, the Very Large Crude Carriers Cospearl Lake and He Rong Hai, both chartered by Unipec — the trading arm of Sinopec, Asia’s largest refiner — navigated through the Hormuz Passage trial anchorage, a route that bypasses Larak Island.
Shipping data indicated that both vessels successfully entered and exited the designated passage, signalling a possible easing of maritime movement following the ceasefire.
The transit comes amid heightened attention on shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil chokepoint, after tensions in the region disrupted trade routes and raised concerns about energy supply security in recent weeks.
