Diesel prices across the United States have surged to record levels as escalating conflict involving Iran disrupts global energy supply routes and tightens fuel availability.

Average diesel prices climbed to nearly $8 per gallon, equivalent to roughly Rs591 per litre, marking one of the most dramatic fuel spikes in modern US history. Analysts attribute the surge primarily to fears surrounding shipping disruptions in the Middle East, particularly around critical oil transit routes.

Energy markets reacted sharply after geopolitical tensions intensified, triggering panic buying, refinery strain, and rising transportation costs nationwide. The diesel market is especially sensitive because it powers freight, agriculture, and industrial logistics, meaning the price shock quickly spreads across the broader economy.

Experts warn the crisis could accelerate global inflation, as higher freight and manufacturing costs eventually translate into rising consumer prices worldwide.
