Senate has raised serious concerns over delays in issuing satellite internet licenses, which are holding back foreign investment and the rollout of advanced internet services. Sarmad Ali submitted a calling attention notice, urging federal IT authorities to explain why approvals for companies like Starlink, OneWeb, Amazon Project Kuiper, and Telesat remain pending.

At least five satellite internet companies have registrations stuck with the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB), creating uncertainty and slowing progress. Although the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed all technical requirements for launch, final approvals have not been granted.

Officials say operators have pledged full compliance with national security and legal standards. The regulatory board is still finalizing a comprehensive licensing framework, but delays persist.

Senators warned that these hold-ups risk discouraging global tech companies and could slow digital expansion, particularly in remote areas where conventional internet remains limited.
