The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved the immediate release of Rs. 19 billion for the Prime Minister’s Ramzan Relief Package (PMRRP) 2026, enabling prompt financial assistance to low-income households during the holy month.
The meeting, chaired remotely by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, was attended by Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Syed Imran Ahmad Shah, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, along with senior officials from relevant ministries and regulatory bodies.
The ECC considered a proposal from the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety requesting Rs. 25 billion for the package. The Finance Division noted that Rs. 19 billion was already allocated in the current budget, with the balance to be released as needed.
Operational expenditure of Rs. 1 billion received in-principle approval, covering payments to partner financial institutions and outreach activities. Full disbursement will follow submission of a detailed cost breakdown to ensure compliance with financial rules.
Acknowledging the urgency, the ECC regularized measures already taken for early disbursement via re-appropriated funds. All expenditures will be managed in line with Pakistan’s fiscal commitments, and unutilized funds will be returned according to standard procedures.
The PMRRP 2026 aims to provide targeted cash assistance to vulnerable families, selected through the National Socio-Economic Registry to ensure transparency and accountability. Payments will be made directly via formal banking and digital channels, alongside enhancements to existing social protection programs.
The ECC reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering timely and dignified support while maintaining fiscal discipline and oversight.
