The federal government has issued a stern warning to traders regarding unjustified increases in solar panel prices. During a session of the National Assembly, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized that the government has reduced the general sales tax on solar panels to 10 percent to enhance affordability and encourage investment in clean energy. However, he expressed concern that some traders are still raising prices arbitrarily.
Aurangzeb made it clear that any unauthorized price manipulation would be met with strict action. He also announced that starting July 1, imported solar panels will see a price increase of 4.6 percent due to a revised 10 percent import duty. This adjustment follows recommendations from both houses of Parliament aimed at boosting solar energy adoption in the country.
In wrapping up the Senate debate on the Finance Bill 2025-26, Aurangzeb highlighted that the budget reflects a commitment to fiscal discipline, public welfare measures, and efforts to curb inflation, build reserves, and improve the current account balance. He noted that federal expenditures are projected to grow by only 1.9 percent in the upcoming fiscal year, a significant decrease from the 10-12 percent annual increases seen in previous years.
