The year 2024 saw a significant rise in online fraud cases in Pakistan, with 13,722 complaints registered by the public against fraudulent activities conducted through online platforms.
According to official documents, 832 cases were registered against individuals involved in online fraud during the year. Law enforcement agencies arrested 1,212 suspects in connection with these cases. However, only 17 of these cases reached a final verdict in court, highlighting delays in the judicial process.
Authorities managed to recover Rs. 652.62 million from individuals involved in online fraud during 2024. This recovery marks a significant step in addressing the financial losses suffered by victims of such crimes.
To combat online fraud, the Ministry of Interior has launched awareness campaigns across educational institutions, traditional media, and social media platforms. These initiatives aim to educate the public on how to protect themselves from online scams.
Additionally, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been actively working through its online complaint portal, which is operating efficiently to address grievances related to online fraud.
