The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revealed that salaried individuals paid a total of Rs. 820 billion in taxes over the past three years, with the private sector contributing the lion’s share of the amount.
According to official data, private-sector salaried taxpayers accounted for Rs. 634 billion of the total, while government employees contributed Rs. 186 billion during the same period.
In the fiscal year 2023-24 alone, tax collection from both sectors reached Rs. 368 billion, underscoring the significant role of salaried individuals in the country’s tax revenue.
The FBR also reported a notable increase in the number of registered salaried taxpayers over the last three years. More than 550,000 new private-sector taxpayers were added to the tax net, while the number of government-salaried taxpayers grew by 194,000.
