President Donald Trump has declared a 90-day suspension of his tariff plan for all trade partners that have not retaliated against the United States. The announcement was made in a post on X shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
In his statement, Trump noted that over 75 countries have reached out to U.S. representatives, including the Departments of Commerce, Treasury, and the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), to negotiate solutions regarding trade issues, trade barriers, tariffs, currency manipulation, and non-monetary tariffs. He emphasized that these countries have not retaliated against the U.S. at his strong suggestion.
“I have authorized a 90-day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately,” Trump wrote. He expressed gratitude for the attention given to this matter.
This move is seen as an effort to ease trade tensions and foster negotiations with international partners while providing a temporary reprieve from the tariff measures that have been a point of contention in global trade relations.
