Google has officially launched its mobile payment service, Google Wallet, in Pakistan, bringing contactless payment capabilities to millions of smartphone users across the country. The service allows for online, in-app, and in-person payments using Android devices.

Pakistani consumers can now download Google Wallet from the Google Play Store and begin using it immediately. Users with eligible credit or debit cards already saved to their Google accounts will find these cards automatically appearing in the Wallet app, requiring only a simple setup process to enable contactless payments.

For those adding new cards, the process involves tapping “Add a card” in the app, accepting the issuer’s terms, and completing verification. Once tokenized, cards are ready for use at any contactless payment terminal.

At launch, Google Wallet supports cards from seven financial institutions: Bank AlFalah (Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards), Bank of Punjab (Mastercard credit cards), Faysal Bank Noor (Mastercard debit cards), HBL (Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards), Jazzcash (Mastercard debit cards), Meezan Bank (Visa and Mastercard debit cards), and UBL (Visa and Mastercard debit cards).

Google has also announced upcoming support for additional banks, including Allied Bank (Visa debit cards), Easypaisa Digital Bank (Visa debit cards), JS Bank (Visa credit cards and Mastercard debit cards), and Zindigi (Visa debit and credit cards, and Mastercard debit cards).

Beyond payment cards, Google Wallet in Pakistan supports digital items such as loyalty cards and boarding passes. At launch, travelers can add boarding passes from Batik Air and Thai Airways, receiving notifications about departure times and gate changes for a smoother airport experience.

The service will soon expand to include online merchants like Onic, Gul Ahmed, Sana Safinaz, J., and KE through PayFast’s integration with Google Pay, as well as businesses using Safepay’s platform.

The launch represents a significant step forward for digital payments in Pakistan, allowing consumers to make secure transactions with their Android phones or Wear OS devices wherever contactless payments are accepted.
