Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has successfully commissioned the Jhim East X-1 exploratory well in the Shah Bandar Joint Venture (JV) Block (Block 2467-16), located in District Sujawal, Sindh. The development was announced by PPL in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.
The Jhim East X-1 well is currently producing approximately 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and over 150 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate. The well operates with a Wellhead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of approximately 2,800 pounds per square inch (Psi) at a 40/64-inch choke size.
The gas from Jhim East X-1 is being processed at Mari Petroleum Company Limited’s (MPCL) Sujawal Gas Processing Facility and is supplied to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC). This addition to the national gas distribution network is expected to help reduce the gap between supply and demand during the ongoing energy crisis. Furthermore, it will save significant foreign exchange by substituting imported energy resources.
The Shah Bandar JV is a collaborative effort between multiple stakeholders, with Pakistan Petroleum Limited serving as the operator with a 63 percent working interest (WI). Other partners include Mari Petroleum Company Limited (32 percent WI), Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (2.50 percent WI), and Government Holdings Private Limited (2.50 percent WI)
The successful commissioning of Jhim East X-1 marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s energy sector, providing much-needed gas supplies to the national grid.
