Several users have reported unauthorized transactions on their Meezan Bank debit cards, sparking concerns of a potential data breach. However, Meezan Bank has denied any breach of their systems, attributing the issue to external factors.

In response to the reports circulating online, Meezan Bank clarified that their systems remain secure and that the unauthorized transactions are likely the result of customers sharing their card details on websites or apps that do not require OTP (One-Time Password) verification for payments. The bank emphasized that such platforms can be vulnerable to data theft, but this issue is unrelated to Meezan’s security infrastructure.

Affected customers have reported losing significant amounts of money, with some transactions being processed in Malaysian currency before being converted into Pakistani Rupees (PKR). Many of these transactions were linked to purchases on platforms like Facebook and other online services.

Meezan Bank confirmed to ProPakistani that they received fewer than ten complaints regarding this issue over the past week. The bank stated that, as per their standard operating procedures (SOPs), they have refunded nearly all affected customers. Meezan also reassured customers that they routinely compensate for losses caused by data theft on websites that bypass OTP verification.
