The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a new initiative to simplify the registration process for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), allowing freelancers without static IP addresses to register their VPNs using their mobile numbers. This step aims to ensure the legitimate, secure, and uninterrupted use of VPNs for professionals relying on mobile data connections.

The move is part of PTA’s broader efforts to facilitate the IT industry, particularly freelancers, by making the VPN registration process more accessible. According to PTA, over 31,000 VPNs have already been registered under its streamlined system. This initiative is expected to further support the growing IT and freelancing sectors in Pakistan.

Last month, PTA introduced an online VPN registration process for organizations and freelancers, enabling entities such as software houses, call centers, banks, embassies, and independent professionals to register their VPNs through the PTA’s official website. The new mobile number registration option builds on these efforts, offering greater convenience for freelancers who rely on mobile data.
Freelancers registering their VPNs are required to provide proof of their project or company affiliation, along with an IP address for connectivity.

For those using fixed IP addresses, these can be obtained through their internet service providers. The new mobile number registration option is particularly beneficial for freelancers who do not have access to static IP addresses.
