The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated an inquiry into allegations that officials facilitated the smuggling of sensitive night vision equipment into Pakistan. FBR has instructed the Collector at Islamabad Airport to investigate seven officials suspected of involvement in this illegal activity.

The FBR’s directive follows information suggesting that a network is engaged in smuggling military-grade equipment, specifically thermal imaging sights, from China and the UAE. This network is reportedly being aided by seven Customs officials during the clearance process at Islamabad International Airport, in collaboration with cargo companies and clearing agents.

The FBR has mandated a fact-finding inquiry to be conducted, with a comprehensive report to be submitted by November 22, 2024.
