Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) has announced a major gas discovery at the Shahu-1 well, located in the Sawan South Block within the Khairpur district of Sindh.
This significant find was revealed in the company’s filing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
The discovery was made from the lower Goru B Reservoir Sand, marking a pivotal development for the region’s energy sector. “We are pleased to announce the gas discovery from Sawan South Block lower Goru B Reservoir Sand of Shahu-1 well located in district Khairpur, Sindh Province,” the company stated in its notice.
The joint venture responsible for this discovery includes Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) with a 20% working interest, United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) as the operator with a 75% stake, Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) with 2.5%, and Sindh Energy Holding Limited (SEHL) also holding 2.5%.
The Shahu-1 well was spudded on August 18, 2024, and successfully drilled to a depth of 12,675 feet measured depth (MD). The well is estimated to produce gas at a rate of approximately 10 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) at a Wellhead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of around 4100 Pounds per Square Inch (Psig).
This discovery not only de-risks further exploration in the Sawan South Block but also contributes to enhancing the country’s energy security by tapping into indigenous resources, thereby adding to Pakistan’s hydrocarbon reserves.
