The federal cabinet has approved the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) rules, marking a significant step towards combating cybercrime and protecting digital rights. This move signals the beginning of stringent actions against cybercrimes, including propaganda against state institutions and government officials.
Individuals involved in cybercrimes could face severe penalties, including imprisonment ranging from 5 to 15 years and hefty fines. After 11 months, the NCCIA is now fully operational with complete authority. The caretaker government had approved the establishment of the NCCIA in December 2023.
As part of this development, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing has been dissolved, with relevant officers assigned to serve in the new authority for a year.
