Premium entertainment and sports streamer Begin.Watch has tapped anti-fraud and geolocation specialist GeoComply to improve online fraud and piracy prevention and address the issue of hijacked residential IPs being used to gain unauthorized access to content.
This comes in the aftermath of securing streaming deals with Sony Entertainment, NBC Universal, and the English Premier League (EPL). General and niche discussion forums, such as Reddit and TechKings, in the US and the UK have been buzzing with interest to exploit VPNs to access EPL for the relatively cheap price Begin.Watch offers for subscribers.
“As the global streaming landscape continues to grow and fragment, mitigating contractual risks with sports leagues and preventing platform exploitation by malicious actors has become paramount,” said Begin.Watch co-founder & CEO Jonathan Mark. “To address this challenge, we’re leveraging GeoGuard’s cutting-edge geolocation and fraud detection capabilities, which set a new benchmark for industry standards.”
He said Begin.Watch is future-proofing against content piracy, geo-restriction evasion, and subscription sharing. As part of licensing agreements, Begin.Watch has to utilise technology that distinguishes between legitimate viewers and fraudulent traffic including users on hi-jacked residential IP addresses.
GeoGuard, GeoComply’s VPN and proxy detection solution helps streamers augment content access control systems, running hundreds of location data, device integrity, and identity fraud checks on every geolocation transaction to detect suspicious activity.
