Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to arrive in Islamabad on October 2 for a three-day official visit aimed at bolstering trade and investment relations between Malaysia and Pakistan. During his stay, Prime Minister Ibrahim will engage in high-level discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other key leaders.

The visit underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance their bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on expanding trade and investment opportunities. Several agreements are anticipated to be signed, reflecting the mutual interest in deepening economic ties.

In addition to economic discussions, the leaders are expected to address the issue of Palestine, reaffirming their shared support for a two-state solution to the conflict. This visit follows an invitation extended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in April after the two leaders met in Riyadh during the World Economic Forum. At that time, Prime Minister Sharif also encouraged Malaysian businesses to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan.

The last visit by a Malaysian Prime Minister to Pakistan occurred in 2019 when Mahathir Mohamad met with then-Prime Minister Imran Khan. That visit marked a significant step in elevating Malaysia-Pakistan relations to a strategic partnership, with agreements to collaborate in sectors such as agriculture, food retail, energy, science and technology, and telecommunications.

Prime Minister Ibrahim’s visit is expected to further solidify the partnership between the two countries, building on the foundation laid during previous high-level exchanges.
